Special Events Committee
Assist staff and other volunteers with the planning of events like the Heritage Farm Show, Life in the Talbot Settlement, or others.
Position Responsibilities:
- Willingness to learn.
- Read background information and prepare for the event.
- Dress in and maintain an historic reproduction costume.
- Work as a team member with staff and volunteers.
- Attend planning meetings and be at setup, tear down and the event.
- If needed, lead one of the event teams (gate, food booth, museum, outbuildings, volunteer, reenactor coordinator, etc.)
Position Boundaries:
- Volunteers must be willing to accept direction from staff and committee chair.
- Work within the scope of the assigned tasks.
- Volunteers are required to direct visitor’s questions to a staff member when unsure of the correct response.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to read and learn new information and skills.
- Positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
- Enjoy working with staff, volunteers and the public.
- Ability to present to small groups of people.
- Self directed and willing to work with minimum supervision.
Time Frame:
Most events have 4-6 meetings leading up to an event and 1 post-event meeting.Other time commitment depends on tasks volunteered for.
Training & Supervision:
- Orientation for volunteers will be held periodically throughout the year.
- Informal feedback on volunteer activities will be provided on a regular basis by staff.
- Formal performance evaluations will be conducted in August upon request.
