Transcription Tuesday XII: Steal a moment’s thought for me

Ariana Malthaner

This week’s transcription is another lovely original poem dedicated to Isabella, this from an MLM.

This particular poem requests that whenever Isabella reread it, that she be reminded of this friend. This poem is written without error or hesitation in a fairly even and consistent hand. It is, however, somewhat difficult to read, and hopefully my transcription is at least mostly accurate!

When casting many a look behind

I leave the friends I cherish here-

Perchance some other friends to find

But surely finding none so dear –

Haply the lithe simple page,

Which votive [these] I’ve trac’d for thee,

May now and then a look engage

And steal a moment’s thought for me
