Weekend Highlights – July 25 & 26

Hey you’ll, welcome back to another post of Weekend Highlights! We hope everyone had a great Father’s Day last weekend, and stayed cool in that blistering heat. This weekend we’ve got some great events coming your way!

The Elgin District Women’s Institute celebrates 125 years this Wednesday June 29th, 2022,with a tea! The Women’s Institute was founded in Ontario, with the first meeting in Stoney Creek on February 19th 1897. The original goal of the WI was to teach women how to keep their families healthy and well fed. These gatherings offered much needed social interaction amongst the women in communities all over Canada. The group lead dances and parties to raise money, supported the community, and later helped with the war effort. From 2pm -4pm, the Masonic Centre of Elgin is hosting an Afternoon Tea party. Enjoy refreshments, a vignette re-enactment of the first Women’s Institute meeting and support this long standing institute.

This weekend enjoy Air Fest 2022! The ST. Thomas show has been voted by many to be the best air show in Canada! This year the show is called “An Air Experience To Remember”. It will showcase how Elgin County and St. Thomas have grown as a community. Aircrafts from WW1 to present will be showcased in a hands-on experience. All weekend the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre is showcasing their exhibit ” On the Line”. This exhibit is focused on local women artists, their work, and their determination to create! All weekend long we bring you A Living History Weekend- Life in the Talbot Settlement! June 25&26 from 10am-4pm, Backus-Page House Museum presents a weekend full of 1812 reenactments! Enjoy 1812 battles, militia, the 226 anniversary of the first recorded European settlers in Elgin County, food trucks, Ice-cream, Museum tours, music, merchants, cannons, and so much more! All ages are welcome, you can catch some crafts and games at our kids zone! Admission is $10/person, children 12 and under free! Tickets can be bought at the door! We hope to see you this weekend!
